What does not Kill You…

…might still hurt you really badly. Have you ever heard someone mention that “what does not kill you makes you stronger”? While that statement may hold true for some situations in life, it is far from universal. Something that does not kill you may still reduce your overall quality of life. Putting your body through regular unhealthful situations does not build immunity to those behaviors; it reduces your overall quality of life.

I often hear it expressed anecdotally that reduced symptoms associated with unhealthful situations must equate to an improvement in health (e.g. getting used to cigarette smoke, or building a tolerance to alcohol or dairy products). Actually, what is happening is a lowering of your overall quality of life – or, you are getting used to feeling badly.

Taking care of your body by getting enough rest, reducing your overall stress level, eating healthfully, and by participating in regular rigorous exercise can redefine your definition of what it means to feel good. Do not accept routine illness and injury; rise above it.
